Hong Kong Events - October 2027

What October 2027 is like in Mong Kok

October is the turn. The Observatory's 1991–2020 normals give a mean temperature of 25.7 °C, a mean daily maximum of 28.1 °C and 120.3 mm of rain — just over a third of September's 321.4 mm — with 1.70 days on average under a tropical-cyclone warning signal.

That makes October the first genuinely comfortable walking month since April, and it is the month to give the street a proper two hours rather than a quick pass. It also carries two general holidays inside the first eight days, on Friday 1 October and Friday 8 October, which is a rarer shape than it sounds: two long weekends stacked at the front of the month.

Dates confirmed for October 2027

National Day — Friday 1 October 2027

General holiday, citywide. A Friday holiday, so the weekend runs from Thursday evening. One note on what is not confirmed: the harbour fireworks that sometimes accompany National Day are not part of the gazetted holiday, and no 2027 fireworks programme has been published — so this page prints the holiday and not the fireworks.

Chung Yeung Festival — Friday 8 October 2027

General holiday, citywide. Two independent official sources agree: the ninth lunar month began on 30 September 2027 and its ninth day is 8 October, and the gazetted list names Friday 8 October.

Chung Yeung is the grave-sweeping festival, and it is the holiday the city spends out of town — so the market is quiet in the morning and full from mid-afternoon, which is the opposite of how a holiday usually behaves. If you want the street with room to walk, the morning of the 8th is the one to take.

Exhibitions opening in October 2027

M+ — the Sigg Prize 2027 exhibition

Month confirmed, day not published. The Sigg Prize exhibition opens at M+ in October 2027, in The Studio, per M+’s 2027 programme announcement; the winner is announced in early 2028, so what you see in October is the shortlist. Six artists from Greater China and its diasporas, chosen by an international jury — the best single look at what Chinese contemporary art is doing right now.

Still to be confirmed

Hong Kong Wine & Dine Festival. The harbourfront food-and-wine weekend has no 2027 dates. The 2026 edition ran 29 October to 1 November 2026 at the Central Harbourfront Event Space and Tamar Park, per the Tourism Board's own announcement, so late October is the pattern — it is not a date, and this page does not print one.

Halloween. The district and the malls mark it every year with their own programmes, and no 2027 programme has been published for any of them. Treat it as atmosphere on the street rather than as a dated event on this page.

Classes and workshops

Daily tai chi with the resident master — Cordis, Hong Kong

9–10am, poolside on Level 42 at 555 Shanghai Street, a few minutes from the market. Complimentary for in-house hotel guests only, advance booking required on (852) 3552 3510. In the first comfortable month since April it is also the one month where a 9am session competes with a 9am walk.

LCSD district recreation programmes — Yau Tsim Mong

Tai chi and sports courses run year-round through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's district leisure-services offices, some free. The programme list is seasonal and fees are set per course — check lcsd.gov.hk.

Cantonese cooking and pastry courses — Hong Kong New Oriental Culinary Art

Small-group Cantonese and pastry courses, certificate and masterclass formats, at 93 King's Road, North Point — Hong Kong Island, not Mong Kok. The school's own site lists fees in the HK$5,500–6,800 range depending on format.

Before you go

Ladies Market trades 12:00–23:00 daily and closes only on the first day of Chinese New Year, so both October holidays leave the stalls open. October is the best month of the second half for walking between markets, and the comparison that decides which ones are worth the walk is the Hong Kong markets comparison; stall hours and pedestrian-zone timings are on opening hours, and prices on the 2027 price guide.

How to keep up

This page is checked monthly and only carries dates a source carries. The listings that move first are the Hong Kong Tourism Board's events pages, the LCSD programme list, Time Out Hong Kong and mplus.org.hk for opening days. This page was last checked on 26 October 2026.

Confirmed vs expected: National Day (Friday 1 October) and Chung Yeung (Friday 8 October) are gazetted general holidays, the second with two independent official sources for its lunar date; Wine & Dine and the Halloween programmes are windows with no published 2027 dates, the National Day fireworks are not gazetted at all, and M+’s Sigg Prize opening is confirmed only to the month.

SHOPPING AND FOOD

While often visited for the view the visitor should not forget that The Market encompasses a wide range of shopping and eating choices. Mongkok is well known for snack food and as well as budget choices.
