Hong Kong Events - June 2027

What June 2027 is like in Mong Kok

June is the wettest month of the Hong Kong year. The Observatory's 1991–2020 normals give a mean temperature of 28.3 °C, a mean daily maximum of 30.7 °C, 491.5 mm of rain for the month and 2.00 days on average under a tropical-cyclone warning signal No. 1 or above — the first month of the year where cyclones are a real scheduling risk rather than a rounding error.

That combination is what makes June a two-halves day rather than a market day: the museums and the malls are the sensible afternoon half, and the street is the evening half, when the temperature drops and the crowd comes out. If your trip has one indoor day in it, spend it in June.

Dates confirmed for June 2027

Tuen Ng Festival (Dragon Boat) — Wednesday 9 June 2027

General holiday, citywide. The date comes from two independent official sources that agree: the fifth lunar month began on 5 June 2027, its fifth day is 9 June, and the Government's gazetted list names Wednesday 9 June as the holiday.

Tuen Ng is the one day of the year the city eats zongzi, the leaf-wrapped rice dumplings, and the food streets around the market are the obvious place to try one — which makes festival day a better eating day than a shopping day.

Stanley International Dragon Boat Championships — Wednesday 9 June 2027

Race day follows the festival; the 2027 programme is not published. The Stanley Dragon Boat Association runs its championship on Tuen Ng day each year, so 9 June is the day to hold, but it publishes the race-day itinerary only weeks ahead — check dragonboat.org.hk before you travel for it.

Hong Kong's loudest regatta: a beach village of tents, the fishermen's heats before the corporate ones, and a small beach that fills early. It is on the south side of Hong Kong Island, a cross-town trip from Mong Kok rather than a nearby stop, so it is a half-day decision.

Exhibitions opening in June 2027

M+ — Landmarks: Architecture in Asia for the 21st Century and Geoffrey Bawa: Architecture for the Senses

Month confirmed, day not published. Both open at M+ in West Kowloon in June 2027 — Landmarks in the West Gallery, the Bawa exhibition alongside it. M+ announced both in its 2027 programme in August 2026; the opening day has not been posted.

Landmarks is the first show to put twenty-first-century Asian architecture in a single frame — around fifty buildings from seventeen countries — and Bawa is the tropical-modern counter-argument to Hong Kong's glass towers. A trip to West Kowloon buys you an air-conditioned afternoon in the month that needs one most.

Still to be confirmed

French May Arts Festival. The organiser has published no 2027 dates or programme; the 2026 edition ran from April to July 2026, so June usually sits inside it, but nothing on frenchmay.com covers 2027 and no date appears on this page.

Classes and workshops

Daily tai chi with the resident master — Cordis, Hong Kong

9–10am, poolside on Level 42 at 555 Shanghai Street, a few minutes from the market. It is complimentary for in-house hotel guests only and needs advance booking on (852) 3552 3510 — in a month whose mean temperature is 28.3 °C, a 9am session is the only civilised hour for it.

LCSD district recreation programmes — Yau Tsim Mong

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department runs tai chi and sports courses year-round through its district leisure-services offices, some of them free. The programme list is seasonal, so check lcsd.gov.hk for the current fees rather than trusting a figure printed on a page.

Cantonese cooking and pastry courses — Hong Kong New Oriental Culinary Art

Small-group Cantonese and pastry courses, certificate and masterclass formats, at 93 King's Road, North Point — Hong Kong Island, not Mong Kok. Its own site lists fees in the HK$5,500–6,800 range, which in a monsoon month is a reasonable way to spend a wet afternoon indoors.

Before you go

Ladies Market trades 12:00–23:00 daily and closes only on the first day of Chinese New Year. For a wet-week plan, the pages that help most are where to eat around the market, the street-food guide and opening hours, which covers when the pedestrian zone runs as well as the stall hours.

How to keep up

This page is checked monthly and only carries dates a source carries. The listings that move first are the Hong Kong Tourism Board's events pages, the LCSD programme list, Time Out Hong Kong, and the organiser's own page where one exists. This page was last checked on 26 October 2026.

Confirmed vs expected: Tuen Ng (Wednesday 9 June) is a gazetted general holiday with two independent official sources for the lunar date, and the Stanley championship sits on that day by the organiser's own annual pattern; its 2027 race programme, French May's 2027 dates and the M+ opening days are all unpublished, so they appear here as month-level or as windows, never as dates.

SHOPPING AND FOOD

While often visited for the view the visitor should not forget that The Market encompasses a wide range of shopping and eating choices. Mongkok is well known for snack food and as well as budget choices.
