Hong Kong Events - July 2027

What July 2027 is like in Mong Kok

July is the hottest month of the Hong Kong year and the peak of the typhoon season at the same time. The Observatory's 1991–2020 normals give a mean temperature of 28.9 °C, a mean daily maximum of 31.6 °C — the highest of any month — 385.8 mm of rain and 3.13 days on average under a tropical-cyclone warning signal No. 1 or above.

July is also when the school holidays start, which changes who is on the street rather than how many: families through the afternoon, teenagers from the evening. Practically, it means an early-evening market visit and a hard rule about not starting a cross-town trip on a day with a signal up.

Dates confirmed for July 2027

HKSAR Establishment Day — Thursday 1 July 2027

General holiday, citywide. A Thursday holiday at the start of the school break, and the only public holiday July 2027 has. Expect the street busy from noon rather than from the evening, which for a market whose stalls open at midday is a long window of crowd; if you want it walkable, take the Friday instead.

HKTDC Hong Kong Book Fair, 37th edition — Wednesday 14 to Tuesday 20 July 2027

Confirmed. A full week at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, 1 Expo Drive, Wan Chai — across the harbour from Mong Kok. Dates come from HKTDC's own fair page: Wednesday 14 July to Tuesday 20 July 2027.

Asia's biggest book fair, and the reason to go from Kowloon rather than the reason to skip it is the last two days, when publishers start clearing stock. It is a half-day to a full day depending on how much you buy, and it is the single best air-conditioned answer to a 31 °C afternoon in this month.

Still to be confirmed

Ani-Com & Games Hong Kong. The city's anime, comics and gaming convention usually lands in July at the HKCEC, and the 2026 edition ran 24–28 July 2026 — but the organiser has posted no 2027 dates, so July 2027 is as specific as this page gets. If it is the reason for your trip, check ani-com.hk before booking anything.

Classes and workshops

Daily tai chi with the resident master — Cordis, Hong Kong

9–10am, poolside on Level 42 at 555 Shanghai Street, a few minutes from the market. Complimentary for in-house hotel guests only, advance booking required on (852) 3552 3510. In the hottest month of the year the 9am slot is worth more than the class: the street is still walkable at that hour.

LCSD district recreation programmes — Yau Tsim Mong

Tai chi and sports courses run year-round through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's district leisure-services offices, and some are free. The programme list is seasonal — check lcsd.gov.hk for what is open in July rather than relying on a printed fee.

Cantonese cooking and pastry courses — Hong Kong New Oriental Culinary Art

Small-group Cantonese and pastry courses in certificate and masterclass formats at 93 King's Road, North Point — Hong Kong Island, not Mong Kok. Fees on the school's own site run HK$5,500–6,800 depending on format; a kitchen is also a good place to be in a typhoon-warning afternoon.

Before you go

Ladies Market trades 12:00–23:00 daily, closed only on the first day of Chinese New Year. If you have one day in Mong Kok rather than two, the route that covers the market and the neighbouring street markets is on the Mong Kok markets day itinerary; the stall hours and pedestrian-zone timings are on opening hours, and what a stall should cost is on the 2027 price guide.

How to keep up

This page carries only what a source dates. The listings that move first are the Hong Kong Tourism Board's events pages, HKTDC's fair calendar, the LCSD programme list and Time Out Hong Kong. This page was last checked on 26 October 2026.

Confirmed vs expected: HKSAR Establishment Day (Thursday 1 July) is a gazetted general holiday and the Book Fair's 14–20 July run is on HKTDC's own fair page; Ani-Com's 2027 dates are not published by its organiser, so it appears here as a month with the 2026 edition dated for scale, and never as a 2027 date.

SHOPPING AND FOOD

While often visited for the view the visitor should not forget that The Market encompasses a wide range of shopping and eating choices. Mongkok is well known for snack food and as well as budget choices.
