Hong Kong Events - December 2027

What December 2027 is like in Mong Kok

December is the coolest and driest month in this calendar. The Observatory's 1991–2020 normals give a mean temperature of 18.2 °C, a mean daily maximum of just 20.4 °C, and 28.8 mm of rain across the whole month — the lowest monthly rainfall of the eight months from May to December, lower even than November's 39.3 mm.

Twenty degrees at the top of the day is light-jacket weather, and for a night market that is the best it gets: no umbrella, no heat, and a street that stays walkable well into the evening. It is also the month the whole district decorates, so the evening walk is worth doing even on a day with nothing else on it.

Dates confirmed for December 2027

Christmas Day, Saturday 25 December 2027 — and the first weekday after Christmas, Monday 27 December

Two general holidays, and a Sunday between them. Christmas Day falls on a Saturday in 2027 and 26 December is a Sunday, so the substituted weekday holiday is Monday 27 December, per the Government's gazetted list.

That arrangement puts the peak between the two holidays rather than on either: the weekend between them is the shopping weekend, and if there is one evening in December to avoid the market, or to go to it deliberately, it is the Sunday between the two holidays rather than the holiday days themselves.

Exhibitions on view in December 2027

Hong Kong Palace Museum — Brilliance: Ming Dynasty Ceramic Treasures from the Palace Museum, 1368–1644

Final weeks. The run ends on 2 January 2028, so December is the last full month of it — Gallery 3 at the Hong Kong Palace Museum in West Kowloon, open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday 10:00–18:00, Friday and Saturday and public holidays until 20:00, closed Tuesdays. Admission as published on 26 October 2026 was HK$70 adult and HK$35 concession, or HK$90 and HK$45 for a flex ticket; check hkpm.org.hk before you go.

Over a hundred Ming pieces from the imperial collection, in three sections across the dynasty. Between Christmas and New Year it is also the calmest indoor option in a city that is otherwise full.

M+ — M+ Sigg Collection: City Lives and Do Ho Suh: Belonging

Both open through December. City Lives opened in the Sigg Galleries in August 2027 and Belonging opened in the Main Hall Gallery in September 2027; neither has a closing date published, so both are open through the month. Two hours in West Kowloon covers a Christmas-week afternoon without touching the shopping crowds.

Still to be confirmed

Clockenflap Music & Arts Festival. The city's flagship outdoor music weekend has no 2027 dates. The organiser confirmed the 2026 edition as 4–6 December 2026 at the Central Harbourfront Event Space, so early December is the pattern — a pattern is not a date, and any 2027 date you see elsewhere is invented.

Hong Kong WinterFest. The lighting programme runs into early January; the 2026–27 edition ran from 1 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. Nothing has been published for 2027–28, so treat it as continuing atmosphere rather than as a dated event.

New Year's Eve on the harbour. The Tourism Board carries a countdown event annually and has published no 2027 notice — no time, no fireworks details, no confirmation. This page prints none of them.

Classes and workshops

Daily tai chi with the resident master — Cordis, Hong Kong

9–10am, poolside on Level 42 at 555 Shanghai Street, a few minutes from the market. Complimentary for in-house hotel guests only, advance booking required on (852) 3552 3510 — and in a month that averages 18 °C and tops out around 20, the poolside half of that sounds better than the walk to the market.

LCSD district recreation programmes — Yau Tsim Mong

Tai chi and sports courses run year-round through the Leisure and Cultural Services Department's district leisure-services offices, some of them free. Fees are set per programme and the list is seasonal — check lcsd.gov.hk for what is open over the holidays, because district programmes often pause around them.

Cantonese cooking and pastry courses — Hong Kong New Oriental Culinary Art

Small-group Cantonese and pastry courses in certificate and masterclass formats at 93 King's Road, North Point — Hong Kong Island, not Mong Kok. The school's own site lists fees in the HK$5,500–6,800 range depending on format.

Before you go

Ladies Market trades 12:00–23:00 daily and closes only on the first day of Chinese New Year, so both December holidays find the stalls open. For the shopping week, the pages worth reading first are the bargaining guide, the 2027 price guide and what to buy at the market; hours and pedestrian-zone timings are on opening hours.

How to keep up

This page is checked monthly and only prints what a source dates. The listings that move first are the Hong Kong Tourism Board's events pages, clockenflap.com for the music weekend, the LCSD programme list and Time Out Hong Kong. This page was last checked on 26 October 2026.

Confirmed vs expected: Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December) and the substituted weekday holiday (Monday 27 December) are gazetted, and the three exhibitions are confirmed to be on view through the month; Clockenflap, the WinterFest programme and the harbour countdown have no published 2027 dates, so each appears here as a window with the 2026 edition dated for scale rather than as a 2027 date.

SHOPPING AND FOOD

While often visited for the view the visitor should not forget that The Market encompasses a wide range of shopping and eating choices. Mongkok is well known for snack food and as well as budget choices.
